For yee juniors and seniors, this is a good contest to enter if you are
writing a paper about peace issues for a class already. I tried twice
before, and it doesn't take too much additional work...

Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics

Essay Contest 2000

Prizes up to $5000 are available to full-time college juniors and
seniors for 3000- to 4000-word essays about "urgent ethical issues
confronting them in today's complex world." Entries must be
postmarked on or before 21 January 2000.

Contest procedures have been changed this year. Institutions are no
longer limited in the number of entries that may be submitted.
However, every student is now required to have a faculty member review
the essay and fill out a faculty sponsor form. A faculty member may
sponsor no more than two entrants.

Detailed guidelines and entry forms are available on the Elie Wiesel
Foundation website at http://www.eliewieselfoundation.org
