SPANK THE BANK!

Well Folks, the time has come for us to put our heads together. Ciitbank descends on MIT in no less than two weeks, to recruit for corporate jobs and credit cards. A surefire way to make sure that Citibank receives our message is to have a presence wherever they are on campus. The best way to do this is for everyone who can to come to the 2nd floor lounge of the CAC, where we will talk about the campaign, it's goals, and spend a few minutes strategizing. I'll bring a pizza or two, and we can discuss the different opportunities to make a tangible and immediate effect on Citibank.

As evidence of how quickly this campaign can spread and win - one volunteer and I generated over 100 calls into Citibank this past Tuesday
We approached every student we could with a cell phone and information, and MIT students told Citibank that they did not approve of Citibank using student's money to plunder the environment for profit! This was part of an International Call-In day that 0ver 30 other colleges took part in. Ciitbank is still trying to get a handle on all the calls and hasn't issued a response.

If you are part of a current campaign or group, this might also be a good time to think about common ground and coalition building, as this campaign to spank the bank covers many goals we are all out to achieve in our movement towards positive social change. We will be going over strategy and message development, media outreach (again as evidence - 4 different Newspapers interviewed me about this call-in!), and a host of other activities from fundraising to visibility.

This is all to culminate in an OCTOBER 17th DAY OF ACTION at Salmon Smith Barney in Boston (Citibank's Corporate Lending face). We will be having a press conference, a free drawing (giving out prizes from raffle tickets), and some great speakers. Your attendance is important, but your involvement is invaluable.

"But Chris, This all sounds great but I want to know more and am not sure about how much time I could commit..."
That is completely understandable. But don't let that sop you from coming! I will be honest in the sense that if we were to be able to digest every single detail of this campaign, you'd all be graduated before we got anything done. You learn the most by becoming involved with it and helping others to become involved. That's the cold truth. But again, We'll have information available with other references for you to check out. Your time is all about how you spend it. A half-hour of putting up posters makes a big difference. Some people want to help by putting that time into writing an LTE to the Tech, others by calling a reporter to develop a relationship with that news source. Your time is the most valuable thing you have and we'll make sure together that you use it wisely and strategically.

"Can we go to Red Sox games?"
Glad you asked. We have a great idea for something to do at a Sox game at Fenway. But that's the teaser. To find out more, you have to show up and have free pizza.
In Brief:
Citibank is the world's most destructive bank and they use our money inappropriately. This has to stop. A leverage point that we must exploit is Citi's ACCESS TO MIT STUDENTS. Let's toss this bank off campus and force their hand. This is a campaign for a sane and sustainable economy and nothing less. This campaign is not about countless 3 hour meetings where nothing gets done - We are committed to keeping the meetings well-planned, and are very results-oriented. That means going out and getting our hands dirty and loving it. This is your school, your money, your friends, and your chance to send a national blow to Citibank. Tuesday Sept 19th, 7:00, 2nd Floor Lounge of the CAC
Thanks, Chris Lucas (617).970.3022
