Dear SJC members,

Let's show our support for striking workers. Basically, they
are striking to be able to do what the law already claims to
afford them the right to do: to organize without interference or
intimidation from the company.

> Please show your support by rallying for jobs with justice! And don't
> forget to join the picket lines!!
>
> Where: Friday, August 11, 2000
> Time: 12:00 PM
> Where: Post Office Square (185 Franklin St., downtown Boston)

More details of how to help follow in fwded mails below.

I also think it is more than an oversight that this "new"
company has co-opted the peace sign in their ad campaign...
with all these diverse, happy customers, of course, flashing
the peace, I mean Verizon, sign to each other...
This is not to trivialize the more direct effect of threatening
wireless workers from organizing, but just part of the pattern of
using money, media and shamelessness to try and silence any who
would challenge their right to do whatever the %$#& they please...
Apparently, Bell has always been at the forefront of the
propaganda game.

I would advocate signs that also make fun of them on this front.

	In unity,

			Aimee

> Hi, folks. As you probably know, there are currently 85,000 workers on
> strike at Verizon, the corporation that was formed when Bell Atlantic and
> GTE merged. Those who protested in Philly should, if possible, be supporting
> them on the picket line. Just as many of our sisters and brothers risked
> their freedom in Philly, these workers are risking their livelihoods by
> striking. They need our support.
