Subject: Peace and Justice Activities
Cambridge Summer Youth Peace and Justice folks invite you to a
"Thursday evening for peace and justice "
This summer, the youth are planning 3 Thursdays open to folks to come
and share a meal from 5:30 to 6:30 and then join them for a presentation.
All the programs are held at Grace Church, 56 Magazine street just
outside of Central Square Cambridge.
Thursday July 13, the group will be showing the movie 3 Kings about the
U.S. war in Iraq. Following the film, there will be short presentations
about the on-going situation today with 10 years of sanctions in place.
On Thursday, July 20, the program will turn to criminal justice and a new
idea called restorative justice. In parts of Canada, indigenous peoples are
using circles to deal with the issues of crime. Communities in which 90%
of the people were going to jail have turned themselves around by
bringing together the offender, the victim and the affected community to
deal with the harm which has happened. Speaking at the church will be
Mark Foget from the Canada American Friends Service committee who
has worked all over with restorative justice.
On Thursday, July 27, the youth will bring "Voices for Non-Violence and
Justice" sharing their own ideas about non-violent social change along
with speakers from Guatemala, Cambodia and those of civil rights and
anti-violence work in the U.S.
