It's been repeated in cities across the country, and I participated in Pittsburgh before moving here. The idea is to promote bike awareness and more bike-friendly conditions. There is no formal organizer for the event - it just happens. In Boston, they meet the last Friday of every month at 5:30 in Copley Square for a bike ride / party. See www.bostoncriticalmass.org. Bike advocates should also see www.massbike.com - which is more like a lobbying organization. The group I like the best is Bikes Not Bombs. This group sends used bikes and bike parts to improve the lives of people in Nicaragua and elsewhere in Latin America. In Boston they collect used bikes and run a program for high school kids to work in the shop fixing bikes. Their shop is in Roxbury just off the orange line, and you can buy bike accessories or used bikes which have been fixed up, with money supporting the organization. This is a great group that brings together a lot of good causes, and which needs volunteer help! Bike on everyone! Jason --------------------------------------------------------------- J.
