FROM THE NEGOTIATION TABLE BACK TO THE PICKET LINE:
SOMERVILLE PROJECTIONISTS UPDATE (7/2)

You all know the story: it has now been over two
months since the
projectionists at the Somerville Theater demanded
union recognition and a
fair contract. Projectionists at the Somerville
Theater are paid minimum
wage ($6.75/hour) with little hope of raises, receive
absolutely
benefits, and are forced to work in an unsafe and
unhealthy environment.
Okay, onto the latest update...

MEL DECLARES NEGOTIATIONS ARE OFF

What had the potential to be a fruitful negotiation
process, has turned
sour. One week after talks initiated by Mayor Dorothy
Gay began, the
negotiations between locked-out projectionists and Mel
Fraiman have
ground to a standstill.

Despite a temporary moratorium on pickets and a
willingness on the part
of the projectionists to negotiate and agree to basic
concessions, Mel
Fraiman has outright refused to recognize the union
(despite prior
indications that he would agree to conditional union
recognition), thereby
undermining the whole negotiation process.

If Mel won't budge, we will take our struggle off the
negotiation table
and onto the streets!

PROJECTIONISTS DECLARE PICKETS ARE ON!

As an act of good faith we stopped picketing during
negotiations (a
mistake that will not be made twice!). However, Mr.
Fraiman’s
unwillingness to recognize the union, and the
breakdown in negotiations have made
it a necessity that we resume our activities. We will
resume our weekday
picketing starting Thursday, July 3 (12-2pm). Weekend
evening pickets
will resume on Friday, July 11 (5-8pm). Pickets at
Mel's home residence
TBA...

If Mel thinks for a second that we will just 'go away'
if he can hold
out long enough, he's got another thing coming. No
peace for union
busters!

RALLY AGAINST UNION BUSTING CO-SPONSORED BY JOBS WITH
JUSTICE!
THURSDAY, JULY 10TH, 6PM!

Let’s show Mel Fraiman that we won’t fade away! When
we’re pissed off
we multiply! On July 10th we will show Mel what’s in
store for the
future should he continue his unfair labor practices.
Join us in Davis Sq.
at 6pm. Let’s make sure that Mel hears us all the way
over in Belmont!

INCREASE THE PRESSURE: DEMAND THAT MEL NEGOTIATE A
CONTRACT WITH THE
UNION IMMEDIATELY!

We encourage all supporters to call again and demand
that Mel Fraiman
recognize the union, sign a contract, and grant back
pay to all the
locked-out projectionists!
