HELP DEFEND AGAINST POLITICAL REPRESSION OF IMMIGRANTS IN THE UNITED
STATES!

AMER JUBRAN'S UPCOMING TRIAL:
NEW PICKET, PHONE, AND LETTER-WRITING CAMPAIGN!

Amer Jubran is a Palestinian organizer and activist in the Boston area
who is facing deportation from the United States for expressing his
political views. See www.amerjubrandefense.org for details about his
case, which has won worldwide attention.

Amer Jubran's trial is scheduled for July 24th! We want to pack the
courthouse. We also need your help in this last month of his defense
campaign.

WEEKLY PICKETS EVERY THURSDAY AT NOON, BEGINNING JULY 3

Join us outside the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement
(BICE, formerly INS), JFK Federal Building, Government Center, Boston.
Come and voice your outrage at the continued attempts to deport Amer
Jubran for his political activism.

PHONE-IN DAYS

Help us flood the government's offices with phone calls. Our last three
phone-in campaigns were very successful. Before the trial date, we will
have FOUR PHONE-IN DAYS to the Bureau of Immigration and Customs
Enforcement: TUESDAY JULY 1st, THURSDAY JULY 3rd, MONDAY JULY 21, and
WEDNESDAY JULY 23rd.

Please make at least three phone calls on each of these days:

PHONE CALL 1 to Steven Farquharson, Interim Director, BICE in Boston,
at 617-565-4214. Request the immediate dismissal of all charges against
Amer Jubran. Also, please ask about the status of the complaint Amer
Jubran filed against BICE in January.

If you are not forwarded directly to Farquharson, ask for the voice
mailbox of Public Affairs Director Paula Grenier.

Talking points:

- Briefly identify the important facts in the case (see
www.amerjubrandefense.org)

- Stress that the INS and FBI collaborated to target a political
activist

- Demand that the government end its politically motivated deportation
proceedings against Amer Jubran

- If you previously wrote a letter, refer to it and express your
dissatisfaction if the Boston office has failed to respond to your
concerns

- Identify any important qualifications or community standing that you
may have

PHONE CALL 2 regarding the complaint filed by Amer Jubran against the
government for its handling of his detention (see
www.amerjubrandefense.org/INS_Complaint.html). Contact the Office of
Internal Audit, U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, BICE, in Washington at
202-514-5765. Ask for Acting Director William Rightor. If you cannot
reach him, ask for Acting Asst. Director Ron Fortin, the head of
internal investigations.

Talking points:

- In light of the illegal aspects of his arrest and detention, Mr.
Jubran filed a formal complaint with the INS Regional Office in Boston
on January 30th and forwarded complaint letters to the Regional
District Director on February 5th. To date, he has still not received a
response to this complaint.

  - Ask what specific actions the INS has taken to respond to the formal
complaint filed by Mr. Jubran on January 30th. Has there been a formal
investigation? Have the INS agents involved in his arrest been
questioned or received any formal reprimand?

  - If they state that they are not at liberty to discuss the case, ask
why it is that Mr. Jubran has not received a response to a complaint
filed in January. What is the typical processing time for an
investigation into a complaint filed about civil liberty violations?

PHONE CALL 3 to U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy of the Senate Judiciary
Committee at 802-863-2525. Use the talking points for Phone Calls 1 and
2 above.

LETTER and FAX CAMPAIGN

Please continue writing and faxing letters to the Bureau of Immigration
and Customs Enforcement during the week of JULY 1st and July 21st. It
is most strategic to fax letters on our phone-in days (JULY 1st, JULY
3rd, JULY 21st, and JULY 23rd).
