Clean Water for One Billion People? - The Role of Sustainable Technologies
Susan Murcott, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT
Thursday May 8, 2003 at 5:30PM in 4-237
Susan Murcott ('90, SM '92) will talk about the application of innovative
and sustainable technologies in water and wastewater treatment in the
developing world. She has worked in Haiti, Nepal and Brazil, in both rural
and urban settings that face water quality problems.
Sustainable Governance: Can We Regulate the Environmental and Labor Impacts
of Globalization?
Professor Dara O'Rourke, Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT
Monday May 12, 2003 at 5:30PM in 56-114
Professor O'Rourke ('89) will speak about strategies for regulating global
production systems - particularly sweatshops and industrial pollution -
through new systems of governance. he will assess current critiques of
traditional government regulatory strategies, and discuss emerging
non-governmental systems for governing labor and environmental impacts of
globalization.
each presentation will be around 45 min, followed by lively and interesting
discussion
snacks and refreshments provided
hosted by: Students for Global Sustainability, Engineers Without Frontiers,
MIT Large Events Funding
