INTEREST MEETING FOR NEW STUDENT PUBLICATION ON SCIENCE AND SOCIAL ISSUES
TODAY
7pm Room 10-485
Dinner provided
*********************
Science changes the world: for better, and for worse.
Ever thought about the ethical implications of your UROP or thesis research?
LeapFWD's mission is to publish an aesthetically appealing magazine
with well-written and thoughtful articles and columns to encourage
reflection among readers on the relationship between scientific
research and important social issues.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
-Defense research and international students
-Advanced security technology vs. civil guarantees of privacy
-Research ethics
-Genetically modified crops
-Social science and sustainable development
The magazine will reflect the conviction that science and technology
should help improve the quality of ALL people's lives. Technical
"solutions" should not rob people of their rights.
In addition to providing accessible, thought-provoking content we
envision LeapFWD as an award-winning showcase for MIT design talent.
Though the magazine will be student produced, there is no reason why
it should look student produced!
Our first meeting will be today at 7pm in room 10-485. We need print
and web designers, photographers, writers, editors, and people to
help with fundraising, ads, etc.
Not sure exactly what you want to contribute? Come anyway and help us
discuss LeapFWD's policies, article ideas, design, funding, a better
name, and sundry other items.
If you have questions, comments, or simply are curious about this
project, please contact Karim or Sandra at: leapfwd@mit.edu
