remember Mad-lion Half-bright's response to the price of a million children:
"It's a hard choice, but I think, we, think, it's worth it."

1. REVIEW (very short)
2. ACTION (today!! don't make me type it all out without your calling)
3. VIDEO (others at MIT also concerned about the issue)
4. REMINDER (find out more about the issue next week with Arnove)

Hans von Sponeck, who resigned from his post as the Humanitarian Coordinator
of the UN in charge of the "Oil for Food" program and after his 32-year!
career with the UN, spoke last night at Harvard for the first time since his
resignation, which followed that of Scott Ritter (UNSCOM) and Dennis Haliday
(his predecessor). Fact after fact, this public official with real integrity
went on. His final straw for resigning, however, was singular: not only are
people dying from a policy that is not working, but the sanctions are robbing
the future generation the necessities of becoming responsible adults,
resulting from the lack of basic funding for schools and medicines. This,
of course, is a direct violation of numerous international treaties,
including the UN Charter and the Declaration of Human Rights, which guarantee
the right to life and to fulfill the human potential.

All three UN resignees will be speaking at a Congressional briefing on May 3.
Call the Massachusetts congress people to that they simply ATTEND the fucking
briefing or send their aide. Two-thirds of our representives in this state
supports the sanctions. Call them; they are mostly local numbers.

Sen Kennedy	565-3170	sanctions
Sen Kerry	565-8519	sanctions
Rep Meehan	459-0101	sanctions
Rep Neal 413-785-0325	sanctions
Rep Frank	332-3920	sanctions, but said he'd go to briefing
Rep Maokley	565-2920	sanctions
Rep Markley	396-2900	sanctions
Rep Delahunt	770-3700	sanctions, reversed his position from last yr

Rep Capuano	621-6208	against (on Conyers letter)
Rep Tierney 508-531-1669	against
Rep McGovern 508-831-7358	against
Rep Olver 413-442-0946	against

Things to ask for:
	* co-sponsor briefing, or at least attend briefing
(May 3, 3pm, Rayburn Bldg Rm 2203, Washington DC)
	* inform us what they learned from the briefing
	* sign Conyers letter or write their own to Clinton
	* visit Iraq themselves to see the effects on people
