PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY TO OFF-CAMPUS ORGANIZATIONS, LISTS AND BULLETIN BOARDS

PLEASE DO NOT!!! DUPLICATE SPAMMING TO MIT INTERNAL LISTS.

The following letter was sent out to 12,000 students, faculty and other workers at MIT a few hours ago. Of those, nearly 1000 had already pledged to join the walkout.

Harvard's action, of a similar size is also tomorrow, Thursday.

We are inviting all members of the Boston area to join us in our walkouts. We are doing the walkouts tomorrow no matter what, because both our campuses are on spring break next week and we want to be sure our weeks of planning are not wasted.

If war does NOT start tonight, these actions will occur IN ADDITION to all previously announced campus and community actions planned for "Day X."

Join us!

-- Meet at MIT Student Center, or Harvard Yard between 12 and 1:30 PM
-- Two groups will unite: if war happens, at MIT -- othewise, in Central Square-- 2:30PM
-- Combined groups will march to downtown Boston.

BE RESPECTFUL OF ALL OPINIONS
BE RESPECTFUL OF PROPERTY
DO NOT ANTAGONIZE OR FIGHT POLICE -- THEY ARE NOT THE ENEMY

Bring a friend, or 2 or 100... forward to your friends in Boston, and then call them to confirm!

>
>Dear MIT Colleague,
>
>Tomorrow, Thursday, at 11:30 am, MIT will Walk Out Against War.
>
>All members of the MIT community-- faculty, staff, students, guests and
>others-- are invited to participate.
>
>At 11:30 tomorrow, put down what you are doing. Stand up and make an
>announcement, letting those around you (in class, at work, on the street)
>know what is going on. Calmly invite people you pass to join you as you
>walk to the Student Center.
>
>We will gather there until around 2:30 to hear music, talk, and make signs.
>Later, we will join colleagues from Harvard, and we will march.
>
>Until 11:30 tomorrow, please let everyone else know what is happening.
>
>Walkout at 11:30. Gather support. Student Center at 12.
>
>Whatever your role or position tomorrow, stay calm and resist confrontation.
>Respect the opinions of all. We are not here to argue with each other. We
>are here for each to stand up and be counted, to make our presence known.
>
>If you have people working for you, respect their rights. Chancellor Clay
>has already advised that First Amendment rights must be protected. Staff and
>student absences tomorrow should be treated the same as absences taken for
>personal reasons. Harrassment and intimidation will not be tolerated.
>
>This is a one-time mailing being sent to all members of the MIT community.
>You are not on a mailing list. Please do not reply to this email.
>Our apologies to anyone who has received multiple copies of this message.
>
>Sincerely,
>MIT No War Coalition
