Thanks Laura. I've met and talked fairly extensively with Kucinich.
I call him the "cosmic" congressman. He has Hubble photos in his
office, and actually said to a few us recently (in Toronto when he
was there urging Canadian Gov't to hold a treaty conference on the
weaponization of space) - now keep an open mind - he said, "one thing
we all have in common is that we care about the Universe". May sound
a bit too "out there" for some, but I know where he was coming from
and it was real. At least he's got a broad perspective!
He lead the opposition to the war resolution in the House. He has
introduced a bill (40 co-sponsors) calling for the formation of a
Department of Peace. He has introduced legislation to halt US work
on space weapons and a corresponding world treaty, the Space
Preservation Treaty, aimed at preventing the weaponization of space.
He is active regarding GM food regulation. He's the chair of the
progressive caucus. Would be awesome if the Green Party could get
behind him. Some are beginning to.
This may also sound a bit out there too, but it was quite moving when
at the end of his speech in Toronto, he actually sang a few bars of
the Canadian anthem and US anthem. He writes so much of his
speeches, which are unlike anything I've ever heard from a politician.
He is unusual and real and his heart is in the right place. He
fundamentally believes in shifting from a paradigm of fear to a
paradigm of peace based on hope. He is a true world statesman and
visionary, and we'll be hearing more from him. He may not exactly
look "presidential" but maybe for many that will be part of his
appeal!
