Stop the Israeli Invasion of the West Bank and Gaza!
Tuesday, 1/28, 5:00 p.m.

In the last two weeks leading up to the Israeli elections, Israeli
military attacks on the West Bank and Gaza have escalated to the level
of a full scale invasion.
On Saturday, January 25, as many as 50 tanks, supported by helicopters
and a column of armored vehicles, attacked the neighborhood of
al-Zaytoun in the south of Gaza City, making the deepest incursion into
the densely populated area since the beginning of the Intifada 28 months
ago. Israeli soldiers killed 12 Palestinians and wounded more than 50
others--the deadliest attack since October.
On Friday, the Israeli military destroyed all of the bridges leading in
and out of Beit Hanoun in the north of the Gaza Strip, and then shelled
the town for the next 18 hours, killing one 18 year old, and injuring
twenty other people.
Scores of homes, stores, and other civilian facilities have been
destroyed in the shelling or bulldozed. Israel has now placed the whole
of the West Bank and Gaza under a complete military lock-down, making
all movement impossible.
While Israel invades Gaza officially in the name of 'protecting' its
elections, some 3.5 million Palestinians living under illegal Israeli
occupation and military law have been deprived for decades not only of
the right to vote, but of the most basic human rights, including the
right to freedom of movement, the right to basic protection under law,
the right to be secure in their homes and property, the right to publish
freely, and the right of political assembly. For them, this is the
meaning of 'Israeli democracy.'
