Students have driven every social movement in recent history from Civil
Rights to the Boston Tea Party. It's time for students to stand up and make
sure the international community recognizes the real threats of Global
Warming and works towards solutions. Here is your opportunity!!

Ozone Action, a Washington D.C.-based non-profit group dedicated to the
global warming issue, is looking for 100-200 students to attend this
extraordinary summit.

The Hague 2000:
U.S. Student Climate Summit
The Hague, Netherlands
November 18th-25th, 2000

BACKGROUND
This November, 180 parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on
Climate Change (UNFCCC) will convene at The Hague, Netherlands for the 6th
session of negotiations. This session will determine the fate of the global
warming treaty currently being negotiated, the Kyoto Protocol, which
outlines quotas and mechanisms for international control of greenhouse gas
emissions.

OUR MISSION: TO KEEP THE U.S. DELEGATION IN CHECK
Since signing the Protocol in early 1998, the U.S. has failed to ratify the
treaty or to take steps towards meaningful emissions reductions. As the
leading greenhouse gas producer, the United States' participation is crucial
to a successful plan to address global warming. Without the commitment and
leadership of the U.S., the Protocol and all cooperative efforts to reduce
global greenhouse gas emissions will be paralyzed.

A strong group of informed, concerned, and enthusiastic American students
are being recruited to participate in this important round of climate
negotiations to represent the younger generations of America. Because the
devastating consequences of global warming will be felt during the coming
decades, young people need to remind the U.S. delegation and the
international community that failure to take action at this 6th session of
negotiations (COP6) is not an option. To make sure their concerns are
considered by international negotiators, they will be at COP6 to rally
support for a strong treaty, expose any obstruction of the process, and to
increase pressure on nations to make greater efforts to curb the problem.

While presenting to the world their concerns and insights, summit
participants will be arming themselves with the tools and knowledge to more
effectively address the problem of global warming. Summit participants will
benefit from:

- -Training in International Environmental Activism (rallies, teach-ins, press
events)
- -Briefings from Science, Economics, and Policy Experts
- -Meetings with International Diplomats
- -Vigils, Political Theatre, Rallies
- -Observing Official Negotiations
- -Interaction with International Youth Groups
- -Hosting Web Broadcasts to University Campuses
