"In order to honor our sisters, our mothers, our daughters, and ourselves who
have cried out from violence, who have been silenced by violence, and who have
died from violence, we must continue the fight against gender-based
violence and demand free streets, homes, and schools."
RUS' Take Back The Night Rally-Vigil-March: Reclaim the Night!
Thursday, April 13th @ 8 PM, Emerson 105.
EMPOWER! SPEAK!
SUPPORT! MARCH!
RAISE AWARENESS!
DEMAND AN END TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN!
TBTN rallies and vigils protesting violence against women have taken place
internationally for over 20 years. At Harvard, TBTN is an entire week's
worth of events promoting awareness and action about women's issues. The
week is filled with numerous panels, discussions, workshops, and films
hosted by a variety of student organizations. The highlight of the week is
a candle-lit rally-vigil-march featuring national activist Katie
Koestner.--an outspoken date rape survivor and sexual assault prevention
advocate. Since 1994, Ms. Koestner has presented her story at over 600
institutions to break the silence surrounding gender-based violence. Her
talk will be covered by MSNBC though the subsequent rally-vigil-march will
not be. After her presentation, the TBTN rally-vigil-march will move
around campus forming healing circles where survivors may step forward to
share their stories in a supportive and empowering environment. The TBTN
rally-vigil-march is an opportunity for survivors to release a myriad of
emotions and for supporters to come face-to-face with the reality of
violence against women but above all TBTN is a time for the
Harvard/Cambridge community to show its compassion for those amongst us
who have endured gender-based violence and demand an end to its prevalence
within our community.
For the full schedule of events e-mail nhossain@fas/neamtu@fas or call
3-2247. (ext. at Harvard)
TBTN is sponsored by The Coalition Against Sexual Violence, The Office of
The Dean of The College, The Ann Radcliffe Trust, The Harvard COOP,
Cambridge Youth Peace & Justice Corps, and MIT.
The rally-vigil-march will NOT be televised.
