ECONOMIC JUSTICE REVIVAL MEETING
SATURDAY APRIL 8th
4 TO 6 PM
.
Is the much-applauded "economic boom" passing you by?
As of 1995, the majority of African-American and Hispanic households had
financial net worth (assets minus debts, not including home ownership) of
less than $200!
The richest one percent doubled their share of the national wealth from the
mid-1970's to 1997, and the entire bottom 95% got a smaller slice of the pie.
Outraged by the growing wealth gap? Come join United for a Fair Economy for
an afternoon of inspiration and concrete solution ideas.
Keynote speakers will be:
*JIM WALLIS, Editor-in-Chief of Sojourners magazine. Jim will be signing
copies of his new book Faith Works: Lessons from the Life of an Activist
Preacher.
*CONGRESSWOMAN BARBARA LEE, (D-CA) Member of the Congressional Progressive
Caucus and Black Caucus
*JIM HIGHTOWER, author, populist and radio show host. Jim will be signing
copies of his new book If the Gods Had Meant Us to Vote, They Would have
Given Us Candidates.
Also, REVEREND EMORY SEARCY of Call To Renewal, and STATE REPRESENTATIVE
JARRETT T. BARRIOS, (D-Cambridge), along with local leaders in the movement
to narrow the wage gap.
Inspiring entertainment will be provided by the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church
Choir and UFE's trademark political theater.
The Revival, free and open to the public, will take place at Church of the
Covenant, 67 Newbury Street, Boston. The church is located at the corner of
Newbury and Berkeley Streets, on the Arlington (Green Line) or Back Bay
(Orange Line) and is wheelchair accessible. For more information call United
for a Fair Economy, (617) 423-2148. Web address: www.ufenet.org
Co-Sponsors are: Cooperative Metropolitan Ministries, Call to Renewal, City
Life/Vida Urbana, Trinity Church, Neighbor to Neighbor, Salvation Army,
Unitarian Universalists for a Just Economic Community, the Association of
Haitian Women in Boston, Faith in Action UUA and the Allston-Brighton CDC.
