To all peacemakers and truth seekers,
Please check dc.indymedia.org for updates.
There has been police violence and indiscriminate arrest of peaceful
protestors all morning today.
I paste here information I received from Pagan brothers and sisters of
mine, who were arrested in mass (at least 40 of them) without reason
(dancing on the streets?...looking suspicious?...)
In anger but in hope,
Love
Martin
**************
At approximately 9 a.m. Friday morning, about 40 members of the Pagan
Cluster were arrested at the Blake Building on K St. just down from the
intersection of 17th St. Our march began peacefully in Dupont Circle.
From there we danced, walked, and chanted in the direction in the Farragut
Square. We had woven a web of yarn and had placed on the Circle before
proceeding. Police were everywhere including Malcolm X Park where the
healing circle was to be located. The police followed us through the
streets, warning us to walk on the sidewalks which we did. At the
intersection of K & 17 we began weaving a circle around the intersection
following the walk signs, realizing that the police were ready at any
moment drumming, around the intersection. The police told us to vacate the
intersection which
we did. We then began walking down 17th St. when the police surrounded the
first half of the group. Police blocked the sidewalk in front and back
of the group and blocked off the street. Vans appeared and several more
police units. SEveral of us close to the first half had decided not to be
arrestables. However, the police charged into our group and pulled a
young girl into the blocked area. She pulled and tried to free herself but
they would not her go. Starhawk talked with the police but to no avail. The
police had arranged it so that the group was blocking the front of the
Blake Building. A large bus pulled up. The police circled in even more. The
group sat down. Some asked to get of the group. The police denied
them. When a police chief pulled in with several more police, the others
pulled out the plastic ties and began tying folks hands behind their backs.
Those of us nearby were not allowed near since there was police barricade
closely around the group. The press was everywhere. Get this, there were at
least three times as many police as there were peaceful marchers. They then
loaded everyone in the group into the bus. The group included Star,
Ruby, Lisa, a fellow named from Tom from Chicago, Daniel Goodheart, a Matt
and
Michael, I think Gloria, another gray haired woman, many young people.
Only about 20 of us were left. Legal aid is working to provide support
and wanted to know who had the legal papers. Does anyone know who??? The
LegalAid number is 202-321-4627. All of those arrested were taken to 4465
Blue Plains on Rte. 295, Exit 1 after the Wilson Bridge.
We will be making a call for jail solidarity and need as many of
the Reclaiming, Spiral heart community to come to the rally and permitted
march tomorrow. We also ask everyone to begin magical support actions for
those arrested. Light a candle, start a fire, work a spell. Keep them going
until our people are free. They were arrested for dancing on the sidewalk.
That is it.
Begin chanting and working the following:
All of you who would be free
Heed the voice of prophecy!
In the fortress, thieves conspire,
On the throne there sits a liar
Rich and bloated, they grow fat
On the burdened peoples sweat
The false king wants even more
To drink the blood that's spilled in war
Drunk with power, he forgot
What is real and what is not
No gold, no jewels, can compare
With earth and water, fire and air.
When beings of earth and air awake
Foundations of the fortress quake
Seeds take root in rubble, grow
Living springs of water flow
Now the flames of truth ignite
The will to change, the vision bright
A new world will come to birth
Hear the voice of mother earth
"Feed the hungry, teach the youth
Heal the sick and speak the truth"
Take the power, hear the call
Weave a web to link us all
Faced with truth, no lie can stand
Weave the vision, strand by strand.
We are at Cybercafe(not easy to find - the whole city is empty except
for police. We have heard two other groups were arreseted. One very early
and the other one at Franklin Square around 7 a.m.) and try to post
information as we are able. It is clear the police incited the arrest.
***************
According to indymedia, and this wasn't clear, but I
think that the arrestees are being held at Blue Plains
in SE DC. One thing that those of us that are stuck at
home can do is call and demand that protesters are
released immediately, the more people
calling/faxing/emailing the better.
Here is the info for 6th District, which is located in
SE DC, you might ask for the Blue Plains office:
