Subject: Activist and Independent Media NETWORKING PARTY!!!!!!!!!
Activists Versus the Media or MEDIA ACTIVISTS?
boston.indymedia.org NETWORKING PARTY!!!!!!!
August 1st , 7-10pm
Mama Gaia's Community Room
401 Mass. Ave.
Central Sq. , Cambridge
free!
Dear fellow activists and independent
media makers,
I am writing to you on behalf of the Boston
Independent Media Center about an event we'd like to
invite you to become a part of. On August 1st at Mama
Gaia's Cafe in Central Square, we are hosting a
gathering dedicated solely to creating a stonger
network between those activists who are CREATING the
content of the news we care about, and those
journalists who are DECIDING the content of the
news....
Part of the all-volunteer Indymedia's original mission
was to create a resource for activists (and anyone
really ) to be able to openly create a space for us to
draw attention to the issues, the struggles, and the
accomplishments that we really care about and are not
being properly addressed by the mainstream media.
The few folks who have stuck around to work with
Boston IMC have been noticing that the open publishing
newswire hasn't been reflecting the actual activity
that goes on here in Boston.
We aren't looking for recruits to sit down and debate
the structure of our organization here. We're looking
for ways to help our communities to speak for
themselves and use our website and connections as a
more solid resource. Indymedia can be a vehicle to
bring together stories from around the world and
create a forum for what is usually only shared with
the "already converted" within the context of our
movements.
So let's come together and share resources and build
more personal bonds.
"You" or a member of your organization or group could
prepare a short 3 minute presentation of what you
might like to see happen at this and future networking
events with other activists and mediactivists.
(Please RSVP me if you plan to do so.) There will also
be tables available for flyers and literature.
And remember this is a PARTY!, open to all. This will
not be a night full of lectures!
We will have food and light entertainment available.
Sound and video collages are being arranged as a
background for the evening.
PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY
Hope to see you there!
