As you may or may not have heard, the only non-corporate funded daily
news broadcast in the greater Boston area was recently brought back
from the chopping-block! MIT's very own WMBR at 88.1FM has
been airing Pacifica and then Free Speech Radio news for the
last 11 years and it will continue, at least for this programming
season.
It would be great if you could thank Shervin Fatehi <gkl@MIT.EDU>
for his and other WMBR programming board members decision to treasure
this very important and unique resource that serves our larger
community.
And if you want to help insure its future at WMBR, any amount of time
you could spare in helping produce the show or doing volunteer work
credited to the show will protect the news. Student involvement and
volunteer hours both serve as important weighting factors in determining
the priority of a show. That means that by getting involved, we can
help keep this much needed antidote to corporate censorship alive
and well. There are infinite ways to get involved - dream away! -
but if you just need concrete suggestions, they can be provided
as well. We will be talking about this for a few minutes
at tomorrow's meeting called by Julia for "people who do stuff", but if
you can't make it and want ideas, email me or contact the news folks
directly:
Mark Weaver <mhw@netris.org>
Linda Pinkow <eclecticideas@juno.com>
"Chuck.wmbr" <chuckbla3@yahoo.com>
In short, this is an easy and helpful way to "become the media" in
whatever amount of spare time you can afford to give it.
meeting for "people who do stuff" at MIT:
