Critical Situation of Hospitals in Argentina
The argentine economy, and therefore also the country's public=20
health services, have suffered extreme deterioration over the past=20
years. In addition, the recent three-fold devaluation of the Argentine Peso
has
multiplied=20
the cost of the mostly imported medicines and=20
medical supplies. The reduction of governmental budgets directed to=20
the public health compounds the issue. As a result of the gradual=20
exhaustion of necessary supplies and little or no replenishment,=20
medical treatment for most of the population in Argentina is=20
possible for only the extreme and immediately life threatening=20
cases. Those which do not fall into this category are very often=20
deprived of necessary attention and vital medicines.
The Project's Goal:
Our goal is to join efforts with artists and the health community=20
at large. Besides planning to purchase medical supplies with the=20
monetary income obtained from the concert's tickets sale and=20
monetary donations, we are asking hospitals, medical schools and=20
laboratories to donate medicines and medical supplies for both=20
hospitals.
We would like to appeal for your support by assisting to the=20
concert and forwarding this message to any individuals or=20
institutions that you think could be interested and able to help.
The Concert:
The concert will be held on May 16 , 2002 at 9:00 PM at MIT's=20
Kresge Auditorium, Cambridge, MA.
Dante Anzolini will conduct the MIT Symphony Orchestra and MIT=20
Chamber Orchestra featuring music by PIAZZOLLA. The bandoneon=20
player Raul Jaurena, the singer Marga Mitchell as well as other=20
fine performers from Argentina and the Boston area will contribute=20
to the event with traditional Tango Music, and works by Astor=20
Piazzolla.
Please, join us.
On behalf of our organization as well as the people who will=20
receive your help, we send you our heartfelt gratitude for your=20
support.
Sincerely yours,=20
