Demanding:<br>
·$2.5 billion to fight global AIDS <br>
·Full reinstatement of the $10 million cut from the MA state AIDS
budget<br>
<br>
because<br>
·Every day 8,200 people die of AIDS and 14,500 are newly infected with
HIV <br>
·There are 10 million AIDS orphans and, at this rate, there will be 40
million by 2010 <br>
·If things don't change, 100 million people will be infected with
HIV/AIDS by 2005 <br>
·In 2001, Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations, set up the
Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria and several
independent studies determined that it will take $7-10 billion a year to
make the fund fully functional <br>
·Despite all of this, the U.S., which controls 25-30% of the world's
wealth, has pledged only $200 million to the Global Fund for this
year<br>
