STOP STAR MARKET'S ILLEGAL ANTI-UNION ACTIONS
COME TO A MEETING TO FIND OUT HOW
UNION ORGANIZERS WILL BE PRESENT
WHEN: Thursday, 21. February
TIME: 7-9 p.m.
WHERE: 1-134
The National Labor Board has issued a formal complaint against Star Market
and its parent company, Shaw's Supermarkets for alleged violations of
federal labor law. Star management is accused of showing anti-union
videos, posting anti-union material in break rooms holding one-on-one meetings
with employees to discourage union support, and having union organizers
removed from parking lots while other groups were openly soliciting.
WHY? Employees at previously unionized Shaw's stores earn across-the-board
higher saleries and are offered affordable health care coverage options.
The MIT community is a crucial Star constituency. We have the leverage to
help force Star to declare neutrality and allow employees to receive
information and freely discuss issues in their workplace.
Organizers from the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union
will be at MIT this Thursday, explaining what we can do to help
stop Star's illegal actions.
Planning of this meeting has been supported by MIT United Trauma Relief.
