Sustainable Living
SP275 - 6 units
http:/web.mit.edu/corrina/Public/sustainablelivingclass/

FIRST MEETING: Tuesday, 2/5, 4 to 5 PM in ESG (bldg 26. 6th floor)
We will schedule permanent meeting times around students' schedules. If
you can't come to this meeting but still want to take the class, please
email me your schedule. There seems to have been an issue registering for
this subject through WEBSIS. Please consider taking this class even if you
can only take it as a listener. It won't be held if we don't have enough
students. If you have any questions, please email me.

Do you care about the environment but feel powerless to make a
difference? Interested in "sustainability" but don't know what it is, or
how it could be relevant to your life? Want to help make MIT a greener
place to live by designing and implementing your own project? Have a
great idea but no support to make it happen? This class may be for you.

Sustainable Living is a seminar being offered _only_ this spring. The class is
a hands-on approach to learning how to reduce the environmental impact
of your living area, home, and educational institution. Students will
participate in twice-weekly discussions and reading. Major units to be
covered include MIT's environmental movement and resources, the
"footprint" of institutional living spaces, personal environmental
impacts, analysis of personal consumption, and grass roots environmental
activism. The seminar may also include guest speakers from the Boston
area and optional field trips to view examples of successful
environmental change. At the same time, students will be designing and
completing their own projects to improve the sustainability of their
personal living space. A section of each class will be devoted to
discussing progress. The seminar will culminate in a poster
presentation of the projects. If you don't have any ideas for projects,
never fear, we have a stockpile of ideas and nearly set up projects that
you can take.

Questions? Thinking about taking the course?
