Dear Peace-Listers,

This May, from the 1st to the 5th, the city of Boston
will be hosting a five day celebration of resistance,
community, and freedom. This five day convergence is
called the Festival del Pueblo.

It will include:

-Four nights of concerts with acts ranging from
hip-hop, to jazz, to folk, punk, rock, and everything
in between. As of now there are approximately 20
confirmed acts from Philadelphia, New Jersey, West
Virginia, Washington DC, and of course, the Boston
area. We are expecting approximately 50 or 60 acts to
perform once all is said and done.

-A radical bookfair and free school. The bookfair will
feature tables from radical and progressive
organizations, publications, collectives, and
bookstores from across North America.

For the free school aspect of the festival we are
hoping to have, among several others, Noam Chomsky and
Howard Zinn speaking. Confirmed already are Professor
Jon Bekken (Editor of Industrial Worker, the monthly
publication of the IWW) and Professor Noel Ignatiev
(Editor of Race Traitor). Cindy Milstein (of the
Institute for Social Ecology) is also likely to be
speaking.

-A cultural gathering involving movie screenings and
radical art exhibitions.

-An afternoon of Radical sports (soccer, basketball,
and ultimate frisbee), and socializing with an outdoor
picninc.

-A community carnival organized in conjunction with
the Wake Up the Earth/Red and Green festival,
organized in Jamaica Plains every year for 23 years
and attended by over five thousand people last year).
This festival will include such games as “Dunk the
Landlord,” “Destroy the Prison,” and much much more.

-Two demonstrations (one on May 1st, celebrating the
tradition of May 1st, and a large demonstration on May
5th.

The aim of the May 5th demonstration, titled a
Convergance of Struggles, is to bring together
communities and groups in struggle, be it against the
US’s new war, against high rent, police brutality,
etc. Together in a recognition that all these
struggles are in fact linked, and that by joining
together, our resistance is stronger.

We aim for this entire festival to be an opportunity
for people with similar concerns who do not normally
interact and spend time together to bond and bring our
communities in struggle closer. For this we have been
doing a lot of work with local communities, community
groups, labor groups, local radicals, and, of course,
student groups.

We hope to see a really strong showing of opposition
to war, racism, and everyday oppression, at the
festival events, and most importantly, in the streets
of Boston.

For this reason we invite ________ to participate in
the festival by organizing an event (a workshop, an
attraction at the carnival, street theater, etc.),
having a book table, or simply (but very importantly)
attending.

We are trying to get as large as possible of a
participation from student groups particularly in what
refers to the anti-war aspect of this convergence.
Being that Boston has an incredibly high concentration
of university students, we would like to see a huge
turnout of college students against war from all over
North America to send a clear message to the Bush
Administration. For this reason, we would love it if
______ would endorse this event (there are already 24
endorsing groups, including Boston University Radial
Student Alliance and the Northeastern University
Progressive Student Alliance), attend, and ideally
organize transportation from ________ to Boston.

We hope to hear from you soon. Please do not hesitate
to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
Also, please see our website at
www.festivaldelpueblo.org

We hope to see you in May!

Solidarity,

Nicolas
