A really wonderful article.

It's about Sid Gottlieb, the CIA's "mind-control" chemist. Very
distrurbing overtones given our current situation. To quote the article:
"As recently as August, many might have found it easy to
look back at those excesses as virtually medieval and call
them 'unthinkable,' a handy term to distance ourselves from
unsavory elements of our own past. But what was
unthinkable in summer is no longer so in autumn. This
season, we don't need Gottlieb or anyone else to convince us
of the hidden threats and potential horrors we face. We can
see it in the endless loop of the news.
The revulsion felt at secret American schemes of
assassination has given way to the fervent hope of some that
our assassins will be more successful this time. A recent
national poll revealed that one in three Americans is ready to
sanction torture in the interrogation of terrorism suspects.
Once again, the good we do and the evil we are capable of
glide within the same tight orbit.
peace,
Eric
