Spring 2002 course at MIT
21F.016 (U) / CMS.875 (G) Alternative Cinema:
Male Same-Sex Desire in International Film
Professor Edward Turk
Mondays and Wednesdays 7 - 9
Interpretation and analysis of works by international filmmakers who focus
on male homosexual desire. Primary attention is given to ways in which
screen representations of same-sex desire affect narrative form, cinematic
style, and human vision. Films studied in cultural and political contexts.
Spring 2002: This semester attention will also be paid to representations
of same-sex desire in mainstream commercial film entertainment (i.e.,
Hollywood) and its contrasts with the more ambitious art and independent
films.
