The MIT Program on Human Rights and Justice
Announces its second seminar for fall 2001

Dr. R K Raghavan,
Ex-Director Central Bureau of Investigation, India

"Terrorism and Human Rights: The Indian Experience"

Wednesday, November 14, 5:30-7:00PM
CIS, 6th Floor Conference Room, E38, 292 Main Street

The talk is open to the public.
Refreshments are provided.




Dr Raghavan is currently a Visiting Fellow with the Human Rights Program at 
the Harvard Law School. He is working on police misconduct both in India 
and the US. He has worked for the Federal Government in New Delhi as Joint 
Director for the Home Ministry of India and as the Director, Central Bureau 
of Investigation (CBI)  an equivalent of the FBI.
He has traveled widely all over the world to pursue criminal investigation 
and to present academic papers. Dr. Raghavan has a number of publications 
to his credit. including the two books- Indian Police: Planning, Personnel 
and Perspectives (1989 Manohar Publications, New Delhi) and Policing a 
Democracy: A Comparative Study of India and the U.S. (1999, Manohar). He 
has a chapter on the Indian Police in Francine Frankel (ed.) Transforming 
Democracy (2000 Oxford University Press). He is a frequent contributor to 
the Hindu and Frontline, two leading publications of India.
He graduated in Political Science from the Presidency College, Madras 
University in 1962 and joined the Indian Police Service in 1963.
