This may be of interest to some of you.  The Schumacher Society -- a
Mass based enviro group the promotes decentralization, local
currencies, and land trusts -- has a great line up this year for their
annual lecture series (held in Amherst).  John Todd and Amory Lovins
are the headliners.  I've been going to these lectures for a few years
and they're always a good time.

JOHN TODD is an internationally recognized biologist and author of over two=20
hundred technical and popular articles on biology and planetary stewardship.=
=20
Currently a professor at the University of Vermont. he is a leader in the=20
field of ecological design and has received numerous awards for his work,=20
most recently the Lindbergh Award in 1998.  Dr. Todd was co-founder of the=20
New Alchemy Institute, and in 1980 founded Ocean Arks International, a=20
non-profit organization devoted to the promotion of ecological design and=20
engineering.  He is also the creator of the Living Machin(TM), a=20
revolutionary natural wastewater treatment system that accelerates the=20
natural water purification process and has been adapted for use across the=20
globe.

AMORY LOVINS co-founded Rocky Mountain Institute in 1982, a nonprofit=20
research and educational foundation that fosters the efficient and=20
restorative use of natural and human capital.  A MacArthur Fellow, he has=20
held a variety of visiting academic chairs, briefed 10 heads of state,=20
published 26 books and several hundred papers, and lectured and broadcast=20
widely. He has served on the U.S. Department of Energy's Senior Advisory=20
Board and received the Heinz, Lindbergh, and Right Livelihood Awards and the=
=20
Mitchell, Nissan, and Onassis Prizes.  Lovins' work focuses on transforming=20
the car, real estate, electricity, water, semiconductor, and several other=20
sectors of the economy toward advanced resource productivity.  The WALL=20
STREET JOURNAL=E2=80=99s Centennial Issue named him among 39 people in the w=
orld most=20
likely to change the course of business in the 1990s and CAR magazine, the=20
22nd most powerful person in the global automotive industry.  Lovins is=20
co-author of NATURAL CAPITALISM: CREATING THE NEXT INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION. =20

ALANNA HARTZOK  is an economic justice, land rights and tax reform educator=20
and activist and a mental health counselor. She is United Nations=20
Non-Governmental Organization Representative for the International Union for=
=20
Land Value Taxation , with 60 member organizations worldwide; Vice President=
=20
of the Council of Georgist Organizations, with 35 member organizations=20
nationwide; and State Coordinator of the Pennsylvania Fair Tax Coalition.=20
Soon to be incorporated is Earth Rights Institute which she founded in 1996.=

Her published articles on tax reform are used by legislators in the states o=
f=20
Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey and New York.  She is one of several=20
