WHAT: Lumumba, death of a prophet (1992)
this friday we'll be showing LUMUMBA: DEATH OF A PROPHET at 7 pm.
unlike most weeks, though, immediately following, we will ALSO have a
dessert potluck, to give everyone an opportunity to meet fellow
peaceniks and schmooze over brownies and tea. no political agenda, we
just want to carve out a little social space for us beleaguered MIT
leftists.

why: good movie, good company

about the movie:
note that it is NOT the same lumumba that is currently playing at
kendall. this one was made in 1992, by raoul peck, the same
director, and i've heard from a few people that it is better than the
new one. here's a not-amazingly-descriptive review

basically, lumumba was president of (then) zaire immediately after
independance but was deposed and killed a few months later by mobutu,
whom we all know and love. (see him with his good buddy george bush
