9/26
The Legislative Working Group of the Boston ad hoc coalition is calling for
a call-in day today. Please phone their offices today and communicate with
CPPAX (as described below) so that they can track our two senators'
responses.

From: Eric Weltman, CPPAX, and Shelagh Foreman, Peace Action

Call Senators Kennedy and Kerry today and tell them that war is
not the answer! Urge them to publicly speak out against
escalating the violence.

Our goal is to generate 200 calls TODAY into their offices. So
please make the calls and forward this alert to at least three people.

Also, we are trying to track the number of calls made and the
responses. Please email cppax@cppax.org, or call (617) 426-
3040, to let us know that you called.

Sample talking points are listed below.

Senator Kennedy: (617) 565-3170
Senator Kerry: (617) 565-8519

SAMPLE TALKING POINTS

1. I share the grief of all Americans and condemn the terrorist
attacks of September 11.

2. I also share the goals of bringing the criminals to justice and
preventing further violence and terrorist attacks.

3. However, war is not the answer. Further violence will only
create more violence, hatred, and instability in the region.

4. While protecting our citizens we must also protect our
democracy. Constitutional liberties must not be cast aside.

5. We should work with the United Nations and other countries to
capture and prosecute the criminals responsible for the terrorist
attacks. We also need to get at the root causes of terrorism --
poverty, discrimination, and despair.

6. We should be wary of Bush's attempts to cast his agenda,
including violation of weapons treaties and drilling in the Artic, as
national security issues.
