I took the February 24 student file, converted it with
/mit/mitdir/cso/nameserv/Util/convert, loaded a fresh copy of Moira
and then the converted student tape on SOS (db name is "moire"),
dumped the db in ascii form, and studied the changes. There are still
conversion bugs which need to be worked out:
last, first, middle (names) - multi-part (unhyphenated) names lose all
parts after the first (e.g. "Jr"). For a demonstration,
"finger sro@mit" (sro => Mr. "O Donnell").
type (class year) - many bogus changes. Samples:
USER OLD NEW
rhcp 1995 1584
cpal 1996 1643
jinpark 1996 1968
home_addr - No space between state and zip code. (Doesn't matter?)
xname - See problems with names, above.
xdept - Options are lost (e.g. 63 => 6). (Doesn't matter?)
xtitle - See problems with "type", above.
xaddress - gratuitous spaces (e.g. "Rm 338"). No problem.
