I deleted the cname with the moira client, and got no errors in the
process.  I vaguely remember the bug you're referring to.  Perhaps it
has been fixed (enough to allow deletion of old cnames)?

I agree.  Some cnames (eg: sipb, athena, athena-dist) shouldn't go
away by surprise.
