deleting members from lists - known bug?

When I try to delete a list, and it displays the membership of the list
and asks "Remove these members from list xxxx? [n]:" and I reply y,
it seems to delete just a few of them and then invariably says
moira: Database deadlock; try again later in delete_membe
so it takes a dozen or more attempts to get rid of all the members. Is
this something that's been fixed and we don't know about it? Or something
to do with our ancient version of Ingres? Or something we just have to
live with?
