Why the distinction between foo@mit and foo@mit.edu? Other than that I
   like the sanity checking!

There is no distinction. I was just demonstrating. What it actually
does is canonicalize the hostname following the atsign, then compare
it to the list of mailhubs in the database (currently ATHENA.MIT.EDU,
MIT.EDU and MIT.MIT.EDU).

Also, is there ever a valid reason to set a pobox to a different name
      at the local mailhub?

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking here.

Should I allow user "foo" to set their pobox to the address
"bar@athena" (i.e. a different name at the local mailhub)? Currently
we tell people to use their maillist if they want to do that, but
there are almost certainly some people who have forwarded their mail
to someone else using the pobox mechanism. Is there are good reason
to allow it, or can I make it an error?

Also, will users be prevented from switching po servers?
						   - Tom

That can be done, but really needs to be enforced on the server side,
not the client side. So it's a bigger change. My next step is to put
similar checks in blanche, listmaint, and mailmaint.
