Subject: Apparent bug in Moira mailing list database (User is on wrong list!)
Date: Wed, 08 May 91 15:24:41 EDT
From: MIT Ballroom Dance Club <bdclub@ATHENA.MIT.EDU>

Hello,

I administer the Athena mailing list "ballroom" and on May 1 I added
the string "linley@sdr.slb.com" to that list. That has worked fine, except
that this user is now complaining that she is being overwhelmed by all sorts
of mail that was not sent to "ballroom@athena.mit.edu."

She sent me a sample message which I noticed was sent to the list
"registrar-dev@athena.mit.edu." Sure enough, a blanche or expn confirms
that she has mysteriously been added to that list too (and maybe others?)!
I could not have done this accidentally, since I did not know of the existence
of registrar-dev until now, so unless this was a "hack" of some sort, I
assume that the database got corrupted so that several lists now have pointers
to "linley@sdr.slb.com."

The purpose of this message is 3-fold:

1. To make the "Powers-That-Be" aware of this situation, so they can
investigate the integrity of the database and/or software that may have
   caused this.
2. To request owner-registrar-dev (alias thorne) to remove "linley@sdr.slb.com"
   from registrar-dev.
3. To request a system administrator to remove "linley@sdr.slb.com" from
all lists she may be on, EXCEPT "ballroom@athena.mit.edu." I do not
have the access (for good reasons, of course) to do (2) or (3) myself.

Thanks.
