Hi,
I would like to have accurate printer model information for the printers in
moira. I would like the printer model info to be accurate so that, given a
printer model info to system-specific driver name, I can install an
appropriate driver for the printer automatically.
To that end, I have a few questions to get the discussion started:
1) Do we currently have such information or make any kind of effort in this
regard?
2) Is moira indeed the right place for model information?
3) Does the "hardware type" for a printer in moira get used for anything?
4) What data is "hardware type" supposed to have?
5) How is "hardware type" populated and updated? It is updated when the
printer is replaced?
6) Do we have any queries/reports that list the different "hardware type"s
and number of printers of each type?
7) What issues do we need to consider in accomplishing the goal?
8) Are there other (or alternate) lists that should be involved in this
discussion?
