Project Name: One to One Student Computing Pilot
Project Leaders: Phil Long, Joanne Hallisey
Report Date 4/13/2001

Accomplishments past period:
- Met with remaining process director April 2
- Collected information from Task Leaders and updated task detail
- Phil attended a meeting with HP MITCET on potential grant for proposals
- Held first discussions with experiment principal investigators.
These discussions gave us more detail on the experiments and how we
might collaborate.
- Task Leader update meeting on April 4. This meeting updated the
task leaders on where the project was in respect to the MITCET
experiments and possible IS involvement.
- Created three scenarios and financials for presentation to the
grants committee.
- Vijay presented a proposal for funding to support the MITCET laptop
experiments to the grants committee on April 5
- Established a minimal laptop project that will support the three
MITCET experiments this fall. This includes a mechanism for back-up
and preliminary investigation into shared file space and data
transfer.
Goals for the coming period:
- Finalize details for the smaller MITCET pilot project.
- Prepare financials and presentation for funding for a wider
initiative addressing the long term IT infrastructure, support and
service issues for a large-scale One to One Student Computing
implementation to be presented at the end of April .
Issues:
- There is still some fuzziness about the source of laptops as a gift
is still being pursued.
- MITCET principal investigators did not know of IS involvement in
the projects. They indicated that this was a good thing for them.
- The project definition was down-sized to a minimal project that
will support the three MITCET laptop experiments over the next two
years. However, the long range view is lurking on the horizon and we
need to pay attention. That is the bigger piece of the work that is
now needs to be separated from the laptop experiments.
Key Learnings:
- Don't go forward if you do not have a clear charge from your sponsor.
Team Dynamics:
No team yet. All of the people identified as potential team members
have been very good about providing information.
