Accomplishments of the past period:
* Drafted a questionnaire and sent it to Graduate Administrators.
* Attended the Graduate Administrators roundtable to discuss the
project; collected examples of tools they use in the advising process.
* Drafted a questionnaire and sent it to undergraduate administrators.
* Began a matrix for best practices.
* Completed interviews of administrative staff; posting interviews in
the project notebook.
Goals for the next period:
* Meet with Undergraduate Officers (2/21/2001)
* Meet with Stakeholders (2/28/2001)
* Mail short survey to new faculty.
* Tabulate results of questionnaires and surveys.
* Investigate features of BioMatrix
* Conduct focus groups with students,
* Continue to compile Wish List.
* Continue to compile list of publications.
* Continue collecting examples of best practices.
Key Learnings:
* We need to look beyond our peer educational institutions, perhaps to
commercial companies in order to find examples of best practices. Some
of the customer service, personalized and interactive features found at
these sites might be applicable to an on-line augmented advising system.
* It is difficult to get people to think out of the box that they are
used to working in for so many years. We found this to be true in our
discussion
with the graduate administrators. In meeting with the undergraduate
administrators next week, we will try to present some scenarios which will
help them visualize the potential of an on-line augmented advising system.
