----

IS Work Database

The new IS Work database is up, and OFFICIALLY replaces the old IS
Projects database. The IS Work db has a smaller scope, and a tighter
focus with an eye to being better kept up to date than the old IS
Projects database.

Also of note: The absense of a Project Notebook URL is much more visible
with the IS Work db, than with the Projects db; Standing team work,
known as "activities" are displayed in the IS Work db.

Project Management Web Pages

The Project Management Web Pages have been revised and updated taking a
different approach from before. The goal: to provide useful, readable,
tips for people who are not full-time project managers.

A significant new area presented in these pages is "Project Business
Models". The goal here is to help people with the work of assessing the
financial and business impact of projects.

Discussion of nomenclature of project roles.

Greg handed out a document with Draft descriptions of 3 Project roles:
Sponsor, Champion, Stakeholder.

Issues around Sponsor role:
	Engagement
Feedback (talked about the recent outreach to sponsors to evaluate the
teams they sponsor.)
	Prioritization
"Customer Feedback" should be added to Sponsor Role description.
Degree of responsibility/engagement appropriate to different projects.
What is the split between internal and Institute projects.
Regognition that ongoing negotiation of priorities, and
responsibilities is important.
What to do if sponsor is missing in action?

Stakeholder:
If the stakeholder is the same as the sponsor, you can create a stove pipe.
Stakeholder is not usually the best sponsor.

Champion:
	Visionary, Evangalist
	Sometimes is a stakeholder.
	Perhaps has limited engagement.
Does process leader need to be champion too?

Thanks to a really good team and excellent feedback from sponsors,
significant progress has been made in reasonably sort time. Finalizing
position paper drafts in two issue areas.

DSpace Learnings -- wdc
It has been very interesting working on a project with a well defined
set of deliverables, and comfortable levels of resourcing. Bill advises
that IS try and work on fewer projects, with narrower scope, and more
comfortable resourcing. The value being the ability to be more
detached, more thoughtful, and to produce deliverables of greater value.
Having the ability to feel like there is time to think, instead of
constantly working, results in a product that really does fit the
customer better.

webmail --mbrody
Very shortly beginning a Discovery effort on web based email.
