Notes from speed de-brief meeting:
Results:
Pluses:
These were the right results; not ready for prime time is acceptable.
Results helped manage expectations.
No magic bullet was discovered.
The web pages (project notebook) were valuable.
We had confidence in the results.
Other recommendations could have impacted the Help Desk negatively.
Deltas:
Results are too cyclical, like ISDN.
To date there is no technology watch person in place to do an on-going
evaluation of costs, players
Calls are still coming in asking for assistance.
Could we have done more (what?) with cable modems. The focus was on DSL.
Process:
Pluses:
Good project notebook. The grid was helpful.
We kept the question at a level of "should we?" There were no
predetermined solutions.
After the team did the work, the results were easy to accept.
We saved others (customers) a lot of work.
No promises were made up front.
Deltas:
The team leader was able to provide only at most a 25% commitment, 40% or
more is preferable.
The process requires time.
The grid now needs to be updated.
We need follow through with the results; some are feeling out of touch.
We need to determine what are the on-going responsibilities when the
answer is "no, not now."
Relationships:
Pluses:
The sponsor supported the team and its recommendations.
The team size and make-up was right (right roles).
It was good to cross boundaries and work with new people.
Team members volunteered to do things. Later, the team et when substance
was clarified.
The team leader kept the sponsor in the loop.
There was good team leadership.
We gathered input from Help Desk staff, DSL users, support team leaders.
We consulted with other universities but made our own decision.
Deltas:
There was not enough time for each member.
In the beginning we had fewer meetings.
The time went longer because of the HarvardNet pilot.
