Accomplishments of the past period:

*Conducted a focus group with MIT merchants.

*Began the variance analysis recommended by John Curry to identify which
of the issues we have identified do not map to existing policy. Held a 3
hour marathon session and the result was a draft proposal concerning
advertising and sponsorship on the web.

*Met with Jim Bruce to talk about this draft policy and other issues.

*Completed the matrix of peer institutions which links to interviews and
policy urls.

*Met with Sandra Manassa of the Audit Department.

Goals for next period:

*Continue work on the variance analysis. (Another three hour meeting is
planned for 10/16.)
   *Draft policies for "institutional" e-commerce.
*Meet with Karen Hersey for legal advice.
*Meet with our sponsors to review progress to date.

Team Dynamics:

I continue to believe that we have the right-sized group with the right
skills. Everyone has been most diligent about doing their "homework" and
meetings
have been most productive working sessions. In meeting with Sandra Manassa
she expressed an interest in joining the team. Not all the team members
were at
this meeting but those who were felt it might upset the team dynamics and
perhaps we could find another way of keeping her informed. We could invite
her
to parts of meetings where we brought her up to speed but we really want
our meetings to be working sessions where everyone brings their
contributions. The
team will discuss this at our next meeting

Key Learnings:

The team had been struggling with the best way to attack the "educational"
issues. Jim Bruce suggested that the team draft a position paper concerning
the
issues and then bring that to Steve Lerman who will bring it to the
faculty. This advice was most helpful.
