Project Name: Spatial Data Services
Project Leader: Daniel Sheehan
Report Date: May 25, 2000
URL: http://web.mit.edu/gis/www/spatial-data/
Accomplishments past period:
-Worked with a base dataset in SDE to determine, in part, the required server
speed, etc.
-Met with Jeff Schiller as pre-Integration Team check-in talk with Anne
Salemme.
-Sent out surveys for comment by interested parties.
-Ordered a machine for the prototype service.
-Met with Bill Hogue for Support Process check-in.
Goals for coming period:
-Meet with Integration Team.
-Send out survey to a large group of faculty to assess needs and direction of
support services.
-Tom Grayson and Rebecca Lubas will work together to determine strategry for
including metadata and library card catalog issues.
-Determine which machine room the new server should be housed in.
Issues:
Still trying to add to list of faculty who may be interested in GIS and
spatial data.
Key learnings:
-It's hard to get interested people to spend time at something when they
aren't required to do so.
Team dynamics:
-Everyone is starting to work together and we are getting a critical mass to
really finish off the project.
Additional comments:
It ain't over until it's over. We anticipate writing a final report in early
July after review returned surveys.
