Accomplishments of the past period:
* Gave presentation on project at *MG meeting
* Continuedinvestigating vendors.
* Visited HarvardNet. Discussed support issues, pricing; saw data
center.
* Recruited testers for HarvardNet's DSL; submitted names to
HarvardNet.
Goals for next period:
* Sign contract for trial with HarvardNet.
* Investigate shorenet, earthlink/mindspring.
* Finalize test for testers.
* Meet with Support Team Leaders.
Issues:
* At the *MG meeting Jeff raised the issue of some line problems
with HarvardNet saying they were currently upgrading. Neither Chris
nor I are quite sure exactly what he was referring to and when we raised
the question with HarvardNet they were unsure what the prolem was. For this
reason I have not yet signed the agreement for the trial period. Chris
hopes to talk with Jeff at Interop this week and we hope to sign the
contract by the end of the week.
* Because it will take 3-4 weeks for all the test installations, the
actual test period begins with the last installation. Therefore it is
unlikely that we will have a final report until the end of June.
* While we are impressed with the support and service promised by
HarvardNet we believe that their pricing may be higher than most people are
willing to spend. Their pricing is for synchronous DSL and not bad. If we
recommend them we may also recommend an ADSL alternative which may be
cheaper.
