Project Name: Third Barton Project (Project to find a replacement for the
MIT LIbrary Management System)
Project Management Team: Nina Davis-Millis, Joan Kolias, Carl Jones
Report Date: November 5, 1999
URL: http:/macfadden.mit.edu:9500/c3/3dbarton

Accomplishments Past Period:

- All first-round vendor demonstrations have been completed. Over
the course of the past two months staff have looked at:

SIRSI
Endeavor
Innovative Interfaces
DRA
EX-Libris

We are hoping to recommend only two of these for further consideration.

Goals Coming Period:

- Contact major SIRSI (and Endeavor) sites for feedback about the product.
Essential for us to talk with institutions with first-hand experience with
the products and vendors.

- Debriefing meetings scheduled with Integration team participants (Susan
Mani-Azary, Jeff Schiller), and Ray Cheng.

- Complete scheduled meetings with remaining library staff functionality
groups and compile results in order to clearly document our selection
process and criteria. We've also been able to talk with selected staff
with first-hand experience with some of the systems in the past. We've
drawn some useful insights from their comments.

- Still have yet to see additional RFP samples from Thomas Egan.

Comments: None

Key Learnings: None

Team Dynamics:

- Scheduling numerous meetings (staff feedback sessions, conference calls,
or possible site visits to other institutions, etc.) can sometimes prove
frustrating. In addition, Vendors are knocking at our doors asking for
information regarding feedbak about their products. However, the proj.
mgt. team will not be providig any advance notice of staff preferences
to the vendors until we've come closer to making a decision.
