Here's the local PMI chapter meeting announcement I mentioned at
the Discovery TL's Meeting yesterday. I haven't had an opportunity
to attend yet but Brenda gives it good marks.

----------------------------Original message----------------------------
Dear Friends of PMI @ MIT,

Below is the announcement for January's Mass Bay Chapter PMI meeting -- PLEASE
NOTE THE LOCATION OF THE MEETING HAS BEEN MOVED TO THE MARRIOTT HOTEL IN
BURLINGTON, MA. (The meetings were formerly held in Lexington, MA.)

As always, non-members are _very welcome_ to attend the meetings. If the
dinner expense is a problem, you can attend the presentation after dinner
free-of-charge -- and don't be shy about doing so because many people
(members & non-members) arrive after dinner to hear the featured speaker.
This is a
very common practice.

If you would like assistance making dinner reservations, or just want more
information about the Mass Bay Chapter of PMI, or about the PMI
organization, I'll be happy to assist you.

Hope to see you Thursday, January 21st!

Brenda

Subject: PMI Mass Bay January Meeting - NEW LOCATION

The Massachusetts Bay Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI)
will hold its next meeting on Thursday January 21st at the BURLINGTON
MARRIOTT HOTEL - Burlington Mall Rd., Burlington MA.

*** PLEASE NOTE THE NEW MEETING LOCATION! ***

This month, Paul Grace, PMI's Certification Program Manager, will be
present to tell us about the current certification requirements and the
new re-certification requirements for Project Management Professionals.

If you have questions regarding PMP certification and re-certification,
then this is a meeting that you'll want to attend to get authoritative
information. For those of you who are already certified, you'll want to
learn about what you have to do to retain your certification.

The PMP re-certification requirements are now COMPLETELY different as of
January 1, 1999! The PMP certification is only granted for 3 year periods
now so delaying your efforts to maintain your certification is NOT
recommended.

We'll also have updated chapter and PMI news for you at the meeting.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately, the "warm-up" speaker we had booked was unable to be here
at the last moment. We are looking into rescheduling Jim Hunter, who is
currently a project manager working on an international IT project in Japan.

                       ------------------------

PMI Chapter participation is a great way for project managers to keep
up with this rapidly evolving profession and chapter meetings provide
valuable networking opportunities for project management professionals
in the local region.

The January 21st meeting agenda is as follows:

5:30pm Networking Hour begins (cash bar available)
6:30pm sit down dinner - Chapter Business / Announcements
7:00pm Chapter Business meeting and audience opinion survey
7:45pm PMI's Project Management Professional Certification
(an update by Paul Grace, Certification Program Manager)
  9:00pm adjourn

The meeting costs $25 for members who make a reservation by January 15th.
$30 for all others. You do not need to be a member to attend. Everyone
pays at the door via cash or check. Checks should be made out to
"PMI Mass Bay Chapter".

SEND RESERVATION REQUESTS to MATT ROBBINS ....
-----------------------------------------
To reserve a seat and dinner for this meeting, send e-mail to Matt
Robbins at merobbins@mindspring.com. PLEASE NOTE MATT's NEW E-MAIL
address!

For each attendee, include the following information:
NAME, COMPANY NAME, PHONE NUMBER, PMI MASS BAY member (Yes or No).
If you cannot send e-mail, you may make a reservation by
sending a FAX with this same information to Matt Robbins at
978-392-7926.

Chapter member discount reservations must be made by 5pm Friday,
January 15th. If you make a reservation (early or late), then a dinner
will be guaranteed for you.

If you walk-in without a reservation, a dinner will be provided but we
can't guarantee that it will be of the same caliber as the "standard"
dinner.

FINALLY, DO NOT MAKE A RESERVATION UNLESS YOU'RE CONFIDENT YOU WILL
ATTEND. The chapter is billed for all reserved dinners, whether or not
they are actually consumed. If you learn that you cannot attend, please

call to cancel your reservation ASAP (no later than November 16th).
People who cancel after January 18th (or who fail to show) may be
billed for their reservation if their dinner is not consumed by a walk-in
registrant.

A limited amount of seating space is generally available for people who
want to attend the meeting without eating. If you're not eating, there
is no charge for the meeting.

                     -------------------------
