AGENDA:

1. New initiatives for FY2000 Budget (about 45 minutes) Greg Anderson.

2. Project Database Update (15 minutes). Mike Barker.

3) Developing the "Buy" process (10 minutes). Bob Ferrara.

4) Roundtable (15 minutes).

DETAIL:

1. New initiatives for FY2000 Budget:

FY2000 budget is flat.  But we need a heads-up on new initiatives that
are going to come along through the year.

ITLT Identified one-time-only items:
  W92
  Increased RCC Expenditures
  Software Costs
  Oracle changes
  Y2K
  Network capacity expenditures

Reid handed out a list of descriptions of 6 items with 3 point
estimates of non-staff dollars and FTEs.
  Web->Java->Oracle
  EdTech Authoring
  EdTech Class Lists
  DataConversion
  Oracle 8i Launch
  Application Code Design Tools

Bill reported issues with Digital Libraries:
  The need for robust digital shelf space is heating up a little
    faster than he had thought in the past.
  FY2000 may not have much expenditure, but in the followin years
    there may be significant needs.
  Current initiatives:
    E-Theses
    E-Reserves
    Bit image stores (ramping up FAST)
       start at 35Gb/year increase in online theses.
    3rd Barton project
  Issues:
    Who pays for equipment?
    For staff?
    What is the proper structure to the IS/Libraries relationship?

Pismere:
  Pilot -- one-time
  Roll-out-pilot + contingencies.

Data Warehouse -- ongoing + Master data issues

Oracle: Migration from de-supported versions that are part of our
infrastructure.

SAP 4.5 upgrades (BIG)

Project Management -- aggregate, make consistent across MIT

Web Services

Need for UNIX servers within departments.

Athena development.

Technology Transfer (scale, reusabiliti, install, upgrades)

User Interface of Athena -- example: desktop.

2. Project Database Update:

Key Points
  1. Support project management through:
     Project Database -- for Directors
        AND
     Project Notebooks -- for Project Teams
  2. Project Notebook Templates are coming.
  3. Longer term there will be further changes.

Mike gave out 3 handouts:
  A 2 pager with:
    A table of fields showing they're either in the DB or the Notebook
    A list of the activities aggregated from the Job Flow Analysys
  The first draft Project Notebook templates.
  The current draft of the proposal for moving forward on the Project DB.

3) Developing the "Buy" process:

Bob handed out draft of project announcement to revise the published
Delivery process model to better describe the "Buy" aspect of
Delivery.

  Y2K Reporting

    See if the Y2K info you're responsible for is up to date.
  Warning for Survey
  Wade's Walk -- In memory of Steve Neiterman.
    A couple folks had an idea to do this, and are now asking if
    people are interested.

    Tuesday's topic: LDAP.  (Will be in Student Center but a different
    room.)

  Oracle Software -- new license includes DBA tools.
