Discovery Project: Cluster Design
Report Date: October, 2003
Report Period: September, 2003
Project Leader: Brian Murphy
Accomplishements
Submiited Preliminary report on design recommendations. Limited feedback
received.
Preliminary Discovery Report currently being reviewed.
Fututre of Computing Spaces at MIT Charette held on Oct. 1st, 2003 Endicott
House
Continued to obtain quotes on various items such as Recordable white boards,
furniture, etc.
Issues:
A decision needs to be made as to what will happen after this discovery
project
completes. If we will re-design the back room of W20 than we can continue with
quotes and design plans. Otherwise producing the Discovery Report does not
need
to include detailed costs/quotes.
There was a recommendation to have a design contest or provide general idea to
an Architectual firm to develop plans.
Outcome of the Charrette indicates that we will employ a more methodical
approach to redesign or re-purpose current Athena Clusters which will be a
lengthy process. So, a fast track approach for one cluster should either move
forward or be cancelled.
Goals for October:
Finish reveiw and edits of Discovery Report.
Petiition Project Sponsors for clarification on next steps.
Publish Discovery report
Key Learnings:
There are many possible approaches and uses for the clusters but in all
likelihood, a combination of these approaches will be the end result.
Team Dynamics:
Most team activity has been done via e-mail. Active particpation has been less
than desireable.
