I've had the same problem on Linux 2.0.x (libc 5.4.x) and gcc 2.7.2 and
binutils 2.7 and Solaris 2.5 with native binutils (gcc 2.7.2 again).
On Linux it get a seg fault and on Solaris I get a bus error.
