Interoperability between MIT v5b5+ and CyberSAFE Challenger

I have this problem:

When I try to login from MIT v5b5 Windows login client to Challenger server, the
login puts out "Password incorrect" message. When I use MIT telnet client without a
TGT, the telnet puts out "Matching credentials not found while authorizing". When I
use the telnet with a Challenger login client acquired TGT, the telnet puts out
"Requested encryption type not used in message while authorizing".

My environment is:

Challenger 5.2.6C kerberos server on Solaris 2.3
MIT Windows login and telnet on NT 3.51 running 16 bit mode.

My questions are:

   1. Can I do it? (Are they interoperable?)
   2. If yes, then what went wrong?
