This is kind of a dirty trick, but the first thing I do after installing
xlc on an AIX box is to edit /etc/xlc.cfg (AIX 3) or /etc/xlC.cfg (AIX 4)
and change the "default" entry for -D_AIX to -D_AIX=3 or -D_AIX=4,
respectively. Makes life much easier...
Just looking over the two files, I also see that by default the AIX 4
xlC.cfg file defines _POWER, while the AIX 3 xlc.cfg file does not. Maybe
that's a reliable enough distinction.
